How to get into the Tokyo Marathon

General entry (lottery)

Open to domestic and international runners; places are drawn at random when applications exceed the 40,000 field. For 2027 the window was 14-28 August 2026 (JST), results 18 September 2026; fee JPY 19,800 domestic or USD 230 international.

Charity runner entry

Runners donate at least the minimum set by a designated charity program to get a place. For 2027 the application period was 24 June - 9 July 2026.

RUN as ONE semi-elite (overseas)

For fast international runners: under 2:22:00 (men) or 2:50:00 (women), gun time, run between July 2024 and June 2026; fastest applicants accepted if oversubscribed. 2027 window was 31 July - 13 August 2026.

ONE TOKYO GLOBAL member entry

A separate entry window for overseas ONE TOKYO GLOBAL members (31 July - 13 August 2026 for 2027, results 1 September 2026).

Official tour packages

Only Kinki Nippon Tourist Co., Ltd. (KNT) and its partner travel agencies may sell Tokyo Marathon tour packages that include an entry.

Abbott WMM Race Draw

Runners with an Abbott WMM Runner Portal who meet the draw's completed-Majors requirement can enter a small draw for places; eligibility and results show in the portal.

The course

A point-to-point city course from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building via Suidobashi, Ueno-hirokoji, Kanda, Nihombashi, Asakusa Kaminarimon Gate, Ryogoku, Monzen-nakacho, Ginza, Tamachi and Hibiya to a finish at Tokyo Station / Gyoko-dori Ave. The official pages show an elevation profile but give no gradient figures.
