The Tokyo Marathon is a winter major on a flat course through the center of the city, finishing near Tokyo Station. The 2027 race is Sunday, March 7. The general-entry lottery has already closed. See lottery races: when each draw opens and closes.
What runners like
Corrals are strict and the field moves. Crowds are real and more restrained than London or New York. The course passes the Imperial Palace and long business avenues. Wind between buildings matters more than hills. There are almost no hills. March can be cold at the start.
Where to stay
Tokyo Station, Ginza, and Nihombashi are the practical finish-side bases. Shinjuku is better for food and a worse race morning unless the train plan is already written. Follow the official route to the start. An eSIM is part of the trip.
Food worth the stop
Convenience-store onigiri and yogurt are a legitimate Saturday dinner. Ramen is the Friday or Monday meal. A rich bowl the night before is often regretted.
For the person not racing
The finish near Tokyo Station is the reliable meetup. Mid-course viewing needs a specific exit. Send the exit number, not only the station name.
