The Honolulu Marathon starts early on Ala Moana Boulevard with fireworks and finishes at Kapiolani Park. The course passes several spots more than once. Spectators can walk between Waikiki and the park instead of driving.

Best places to stand

Local guides highlight the start on Ala Moana (ocean side near Magic Island), Kalakaua Avenue in Waikiki (Duke statue area), Diamond Head Road climbs, Kahala, Hawaii Kai turnaround, and the finish at Kapiolani Park under the banyan trees.

  • Start: Ala Moana Beach Park side for the fireworks (arrive very early).
  • Waikiki: Kalakaua Ave near Duke statue.
  • Climb: Diamond Head Road lookouts.
  • Finish: Kapiolani Park. Arrive early for a good spot.

Getting there

Walking and rideshare work better than driving the closed roads. Parking near the zoo or Kapiolani fills early. Check the official site for current road closures.

Where to meet

Agree on a landmark in Kapiolani Park outside the chute. Cell service can be heavy near the finish. A text after the runner is through works better than a mid-race check-in.
