About the Heartland
Heartland (Spirit of the Prairie) is Kansas' original 100-mile ultramarathon, run on backcountry gravel and dirt roads through the Flint Hills tallgrass prairie near Cassoday, Kansas. The out-and-back 100-mile course has about 6,000 feet of rolling climb with almost no shade and near-constant wind; the same road network also hosts a 125-mile "graduate level" race with a Eureka loop, a new 4-person relay, and shorter 100K, 50-mile, marathon and half-marathon options over the same October weekend.
