The Pittsburgh Marathon starts near Liberty Avenue downtown and finishes on the Boulevard of the Allies near Point State Park. The course is a neighborhood tour. Spectators should pick one or two zones instead of driving the whole loop.
Neighborhood cheer zones
Official materials and local guides highlight South Side (Carson Street has outdoor seating and music), Oakland (college energy and hills), Homewood (high-energy crowds and dance), the Strip District, North Side, and East Liberty. Downtown covers both the start and the finish festival at the Point.
- South Side: Carson Street bars and sidewalks. Good for a sit-down cheer.
- Oakland: help runners up the hills; loud and local.
- Homewood: consistently rated one of the best atmospheres by runners.
- Finish: Point State Park festival. Easy meetup once roads reopen.
Getting there
Use the T (light rail) and the ParkPGH app for real-time garage capacity. Review the official road-closure map so you do not get stuck on the wrong side of the course. The P3R app has live tracking.
Where to meet
Pick a landmark outside the finish chute at Point State Park. Tell each other what you are wearing. Mid-race texts get missed in the crowds. A post-chute text is the reliable plan.
