For the Marine Corps Marathon, the best hotel depends on which part of race day you want to make easiest. The 2026 start is at the Pentagon North Parking Lot Runners Village; the finish festival is in Rosslyn. The organizer lists a race-morning shuttle from Crystal City and a return shuttle from Rosslyn, while Metro opens at 5 a.m. The expo is at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC—not the Gaylord National Resort used in some older guides. Decide your start and finish plan before choosing a hotel.

The 2026 logistics that change the hotel decision

The Marine Corps Marathon is Sunday, October 25, 2026. Runners Village is in the North Pentagon Parking Lot, and the finish festival is at Wilson Boulevard and North Lynn Street in Rosslyn. The organizer lists shuttles from 23rd Street and Crystal Drive in Crystal City to Runners Village from 4:30–6:30 a.m. Finish shuttles return runners and spectators from Rosslyn to the same Crystal City stop from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Metro opens at 5 a.m. Event morning, so the earliest runners should not assume Metro will replace the earlier shuttle window.

Packet pickup is at the Health & Fitness Expo in the National Building Museum, 401 F Street NW, October 21–24, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. The organizer requires participants to attend packet pickup; no event-morning pickup is available except for runners separately notified after purchasing that option. The expo’s DC location is a key reason not to rely on older hotel pages that describe the Gaylord National as the expo venue.

Crystal City: strongest for the start-shuttle plan

Crystal City is the clearest choice if you want to use the official race-morning shuttle: the pickup is at 23rd Street and Crystal Drive, and the return shuttle comes back to that stop after the finish. Staying close to the pickup reduces uncertainty before dawn and gives your group a known return destination. But “Crystal City hotel” does not mean every property is beside the stop—map the hotel entrance and allow time to walk there.

Crystal City also gives spectators access to course miles 22–23, according to the event travel page. If your supporters will watch there, discuss where to meet and how they will return; the marathon shuttle from Rosslyn is a post-finish connection, not a spectator transport guarantee for every point along the course. Check event-day road closures and station details.

Rosslyn: strongest for the finish walk

Rosslyn is the finish-festival neighborhood. A nearby hotel can make the post-race walk back easier and reduce dependence on a crowded train after you finish. The tradeoff is getting to Runners Village before the race: Metro opens at 5 a.m., and the official Crystal City shuttle does not pick up in Rosslyn. Plan an official drop-off, a verified transit route, or another permitted option rather than assuming you can simply walk to the start.

If comparing Rosslyn with Crystal City, compare the whole sequence: hotel-to-start before dawn, then finish-to-hotel afterward. The race shuttle connects Rosslyn’s finish festival to Crystal City, which helps runners whose hotel is near its Crystal City stop; it does not make a Rosslyn hotel automatically convenient for the start.

Washington, DC: best when the trip includes sightseeing

A DC hotel can work well for a longer visit, especially near a Metro station that serves the Pentagon start or Rosslyn finish. But neighborhoods vary, transfers add uncertainty, and Metro’s 5 a.m. opening is later than the Crystal City shuttle begins. Check the first train for your specific station and the current race-morning schedule. Do not select a hotel solely because it is near a course landmark; road closures and spectator access rules can change how useful that proximity is.

Should you stay at National Harbor?

National Harbor may suit a resort-focused or family trip, but it is not the same as staying near the 2026 start, finish, or expo. Older MCM guides can mention the Gaylord National as event headquarters or expo host; the current 2026 packet-pickup page places the expo at the National Building Museum in DC. Before booking National Harbor, verify your actual event transportation, travel time, and return plan directly with the hotel and current MCM travel page.

How to compare hotels and booking terms

  • Map the exact hotel entrance to the relevant shuttle pickup, Metro station, Runners Village, finish, and expo—not just the neighborhood label.
  • Compare total stay cost: taxes, destination fees, parking, breakfast, cancellation deadline, and required minimum nights.
  • Ask whether early breakfast, luggage storage, late checkout, and any event shuttle are confirmed for your dates; do not infer them from normal hotel service.
  • If using the official hotel block, book through JEMS Hospitality, which MCM identifies as its only authorized housing agent, and be cautious of imitation booking sites.
  • If plans are uncertain, compare refundable options and save the cancellation terms. Event-weekend inventory and rates change; no single hotel is guaranteed to be cheapest.

Race-weekend transportation checklist

  1. Before booking, decide: Crystal City start shuttle, Metro, or permitted drop-off. Verify that option against your hotel address and morning schedule.
  2. If using the Crystal City shuttle, locate the 23rd Street and Crystal Drive pickup and leave enough time for the walk and security procedures. Current listed service is 4:30–6:30 a.m.
  3. If taking Metro, check the 5 a.m. opening and first train for your origin, line, and destination. The Pentagon station serves Runners Village access; Rosslyn serves the finish festival.
  4. If arranging a drop-off, use the organizer’s Kiss and Run location at Army Navy Drive and Fern Street and follow event-day instructions.
  5. For the return, decide whether your hotel is near the finish, near the Crystal City return shuttle, or reachable by Metro. Don’t wait until you are tired to choose.
  6. Carry your packet-pickup confirmation and photo ID; check the current Before You Go page for entry and screening requirements.

If family or friends are traveling with you

A runner and a spectator may need different hotel features. Spectators might prioritize Metro access, a simple route to planned course miles, and a reliable meeting point after the finish. Share the official course map, choose a backup meeting place outside the finish crowd, and keep in mind that the shuttle’s published post-race route is Rosslyn to Crystal City. Ask the hotel about room occupancy, breakfast, and post-race checkout directly.

Marine Corps Marathon hotel FAQ

Is Crystal City or Rosslyn better?

Neither is universally better. Crystal City aligns with the official start and return shuttles; Rosslyn aligns with the finish. Choose based on which transfer or walk you most want to simplify.

Does the MCM provide a shuttle from Crystal City?

For 2026, the official travel page lists a start shuttle from 23rd Street and Crystal Drive to Runners Village from 4:30–6:30 a.m. and a return shuttle from the Rosslyn Finish Festival to Crystal City from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Recheck the page for updates.

Is the 2026 expo at the Gaylord National?

No. Current 2026 packet-pickup information lists the National Building Museum at 401 F Street NW, Washington, DC. Older MCM articles may describe a previous expo location.

When does Metro open on race morning?

The current 2026 MCM travel page says Metro opens at 5 a.m. Event morning. Check current WMATA service and the specific first train for your origin; early shuttle service starts before then.

Runner suggestions

  • Save the hotel address, shuttle stop, station, and finish-to-hotel route offline.
  • Lay out race gear and decide your breakfast plan the night before; don’t rely on unconfirmed early hotel service.
  • Agree on one spectator meeting point and one backup outside the finish congestion.
  • Recheck the official travel, packet pickup, race-day, and road-closure pages during race week.

This guide reflects official 2026 MCM information checked October 17, 2026. Hotel inventory, service windows, transit schedules, and event access can change; verify current details before booking and again during race week.
